Spray Paint

Austin’s self-described ‘No-No Wave/Dub/Scum Rock’ band, Spray Paint, hit us with their third full length ‘Clean Blood, Regular Acid’ – out September 23 on Monofonus Press. After a heavy year of two LPs, two 7″s, a successful tour with Protomartyr, Spray Paint are starting to take things more serious when telling their psychotic stories on top of rebellious guitar riffs and punky kraut drum beats. Their sound is a bit broken, contemptuous and unhealthy, yet keeps you coming back for more. At times, it’s as equal parts The Fall as it is Endless Boogie, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Nikki Sudden or Peter Gutteridge. You can hear it for yourself over at Noisey who debuted it as “a droning yet funky track that sounds like it would be perfect to rage to at 530AM in a foggy goth club.”

Two years ago – the men of Spray Paint were in a different band together and for reasons they don’t recall, found themselves staying after practices to keep jamming or maybe to keep drinking. After a few demos and encouragement for more – the albums rolled out and they ended up on stages at Gonerfest, Fun Fun Fun Fest, Chaos in Tejas, Cropped Out, and SXSW. This third LP, ‘Clean Blood, Regular Acid’ sees Spray Paint stepping up the sonic production just a couple of notches. Still dirty and mean, but the fidelity of the drums is a marked improvement. August 12th they shoot out another 7″ on London’s Upset The Rhythm before embarking on a European tour and a US tour which includes dates at Gonerfest, Cropped Out Fest, plus a leg with The Rebel (Ben Wallers of The Country Teasers).
