Critically acclaimed band The Black Lillies are thrilled to release their new album “Runaway Freeway Blues” next Tuesday, March 26. To get fans excited, The Wall Street Journal is now streaming the new record a week before its release.

Listen to the album The Wall Street Journal calls “a rootsy flair, mixing folk, honky-tonk country and gospel into a winsome hybrid traditional enough to appeal to an Opry crowd … and expansive enough to ensnare a broader audience,” here:

“A Pick Of The Day” by NPR’s Ann Powers, The Black Lillies performances at this year’s SXSW caught the attention of many including Guitar World who included the band in their “Top Moments from SXSW.”

“There was such a variety of music going on at the festival that I almost forgot I was in Texas until I went to see The Black Lillies from Knoxville, Tennessee, a real died-in-the-wool Americana band” says Guitar World. “Their pedal steel guitarist, Tom Pryor, stole the show. Sweet harmonies by Trisha Gene Brady and good storytelling and stage charisma by frontman Cruz Contreras clinched the deal.”

Watch the band’s recent performance of new song “Smokestack Lady” at the famed Grand Ole Opry below – a place where the band became one of the first independent acts to play and soon after played nearly 20 times over the past year and a half.

The Black Lillies are currently on a national headlining tour in support of “Runaway Freeway Blues,” the follow up to the bands highly regarded album “100 Miles of Wreckage” which not only became one of the Top 40 Americana albums of 2011, it won over critics such as NPR, CMT, USA Today, Huffington Post and Relix.

“With one foot planted firmly in Appalachian music culture and the other always expanding and evolving, the Black Lillies have created a unique sound embraced by fans old and young.”
