It has been a busy start to the year for the Chicago, IL based band, thanks in part to their participation in the “Dead Covers Project.” The Giving Tree Band contributed their take on “Brown Eyed Women” (Watch Here) to the project and garnered quite a bit of attention; management from the Grateful Dead contacted The Giving Tree Band directly to show their appreciation and acknowledge the cover. The cover was so popular among Dead fans and their team, that they decided to play it before an April 19th mass screening of the ’89 Grateful Dead concert at Alpine Valley at over 550 movie theaters nationwide. An exclusive interview with Todd Fink and a profile of the band is now featured on the Grateful Dead’s official website dead.net. The overwhelming response lead The Giving Tree Band to add the cover of “Brown Eyed Woman” to the final track listing for Vacilador.
Since the release of their most recent album The Joke, The Threat & The Obvious, The Giving Tree Band have kept busy crisscrossing the nation, playing anywhere their path takes them. Be it a road house, large scale music festival, dive bar, or the Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center, they’ve humbly brought their music to those who would listen. On the PBS television program, Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour, host Michael Johnathon introduced The Giving Tree Band as “the spirit of Pete Seeger with the musical abilities of The Band and the audaciousness of The Avett Brothers” The band were labeled a band “On The Verge” by Relix Magazine, and in Acoustic Guitar magazine were described as covering a “wide swath of the classic rock pantheon-such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, the Band, the Grateful Dead, and the Beatles-but with a fuller sound featuring quasi-orchestral instrumentation and barbershop harmonies.”
Stay tuned for further 2012 tour dates and news on their forthcoming album.
