“Stephen Coates has established the template of the Real Tuesday Weld: a foggy concoction of cocktail-soaked big band, ragtime, lounge, bluegrass, and, improbably, electronic-pop.”
–Pitchfork

“The Real Tuesday Weld album ‘The Last Werewolf’ takes Glen Duncan’s novel as the backdrop for a widescreen emotional cabaret tailor made for the iPod generation.”
-Stephen Coates

(New York City, NY) – Eclectic UK-based bandThe Real Tuesday Weld will release their new album The Last Werewolf via Six Degrees Records on July 12th, 2011.  The album is a companion soundtrack to the new book of the same name by esteemed British author, Glen Duncan, to be released simultaneously by Alfred A. Knopf.

With the release of the book and album, Glen Duncan and band founder Stephen Coates will undertake a mini music/book tour in key US cities.  Their appearances will feature book readings and musical performances, showcasing the integrated nature of the two releases.   The album adds another dimension to Duncan’s already dynamic novel. The book’s themes of violence, friendship, transformation, love and betrayal are recast in a suite of songs bound together into a soundtrack by voices and readings from the text.

The collaboration epitomizes the anthropomorphic struggle of a werewolf in modern day London and beyond. As the chapters wane on like the coming moon, the music of The Real Tuesday Weld spookily brings to life the words illuminated on each page. Coates and Duncan’s mid-July tour will fuse together the haunting cabaret and electronic music that The Real Tuesday Weld is known for as Duncan reads excerpts from his supernatural thriller.

As ever with an album by The Real Tuesday Weld, individual tracks cover a spectrum of styles from thirties ballads through gypsy jazz, electro-swing and torch song to minimal electronica. The Last Werewolf soundtrack is both a high concept single piece and a playlist for the eclectic of ear and heart themed in the band’s own genre: ‘Antique Beat’. A range of influences including Gainsbourg, Chopin, Django Reinhardt, Cole Porter, Springsteen, Barry Adamson and Tom Waits hover ghostlike above the story as it develops.  The album features an array of guest vocalists including Joe Coles, Marcella Puppini (Puppini Sisters), Piney Gir, and Pinkie Maclure (Pumajaw).  In addition, several cuts feature dialogue from the novel, with Glen Duncan among those lending his voice talents.

The new album marks an important new chapter for The Real Tuesday Weld, whose unique, wide-ranging music has reached fans through a broad variety of channels.  The band’s song “I Love the Rain” was recently featured in a Chevrolet commercial, which reignited online buzz about the song and drove it back into the Itunes sales chart 10 years after its first release.  In addition, the band recently recorded and contributed three new songs to the hit video game L.A. Noire.

The Real Tuesday Weld and Glen Duncan seem to make an unstoppable team. The Real Tuesday Weld enhanced Duncan’s 2004 novel, I, Lucifer, with a soundtrack of epic proportions. The current collaboration of The Last Werewolf novel and album is proving to be just as successful.  This new venture in mixed media artistic expression is intriguing and demands attention.

Look out for the upcoming ‘Tear Us Apart’ music video scheduled to be released early July.

FEATURING TWO ALBUM TRACKS:

“By placing the werewolf myth in the modern day, and giving us a narrator who is sensitive, smart, and sexy, Duncan has written a book that is essentially irresistible for the summer reader.”
