“Acoustic, soothing, rich in ballads – the signature Milk Carton Kids form of fusing two voices into one sound is mesmerizing,” says NPR (which re-aired the duo’s Mountain Stage concert this past weekend to coincide with their appearance at Four Corners Folk Festival). “The Milk Carton Kids transport with heartbreaking understatement. Extraordinary musical facility, both vocal and on vintage guitars, meets humor, smarts and style on stage,” says The Huffington Post of their live performance.
Pattengale and Ryan have released 2 albums, Retrospect (a live album of their solo songs performed as a duo) and the studio album Prologuefor free, no strings attached, direct-to-fans resulting in more than 115,000 downloads and growing. Prologue also includes a lengthy foreword from legend Joe Henry.
Known for their intricately crafted harmonies, winding acoustic guitars and on-stage wit, The Milk Carton Kids use two guitars and two voices to create a new combination of classic folk and sophisticated back-porch Americana. Critical praise has ranged far and wide from supporters such as NPR, Time Magazine, Rolling Stone, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, American Songwriter, Daytrotter, Brooklyn Vegan, No Depression, WXPN, WFUV and more. The band’s one appearance at SXSW 2012 received “best of festival” picks from The New York Times, NPR and Time Magazine.
In addition to their NPR appearance on Mountain Stage, you can also catch their Tiny Desk Concert, World Caféappearance, as well as their Daytrotter Session or 30-min live set for a taste of The Milk Carton Kids live – or at one of the dates listed below for the real thing.
