Wall Street Journal Premieres Os Mutantes – The Dream Is Gone

By on April 21, 2013

Os Mutantes frontman Sergio Dias moved to Las Vegas in 2007, just in time to witness the housing crisis portion of the financial crash that began that year. It helped spark ideas as the Brazil-born singer and guitarist began working on songs for the veteran Tropicália band’s new album, “Fool Metal Jack.”

Speakeasy today premieres one of those songs, “The Dream Is Gone.”

“When I moved here and I saw, my God, the foreclosures and everybody losing everything, it was pretty shocking to see this happening in America,” Dias said. “So I started to imagine myself in the same position, and that’s why I wrote ‘The Dream Is Gone.'”

Many of the songs on “Fool Metal Jack” draw on Dias’ recent experiences in the U.S., he said.

“Every record has its own life,” he said. “We just basically uncover the secrets. It’s like looking into a crystal ball, you don’t know what’s there. That’s what happened with this album, it just came out, what all of us were seeing.”
“Full Metal Jack” is due April 30 on Krian Music Group. What do you think of “The Dream Is Gone?” Leave your thoughts in the comments.
