WESTERN PSYCH-ROCK GROUP SPINDRIFT
BREAKS INTO FILM SCORING

SPINDRIFT’S KIRPATRICK THOMAS SCORES FEATURE FILM “THE TREASURE OF THE BLACK
JAGUAR”
FILM RECENTLY PREMIERED AT CANNES

“Luminously scoped by cinematographer Salvador Lleo De La Fe and propelledby Kirpatrick Thomas’ rousing music, which howls and thrusts in Morricone-layers, Treasure’s overall worth owes much to its talented production team.”
— The Hollywood Reporter

Mike Bruce’s feature film, ‘The Treasure of the Black Jaguar’ recently premiered at Cannes Film Festival and features a score by Spindrift’s own Kirpatrick Thomas. Duane Byrge of The Hollywood Reporter reviewed the film calling it a “well-made adventure set in Sergio Leone-type terrain and blasted with Robert Rodriguez-ish firepower.”  ‘The Treasure of the Black Jaguar’ is a modern day/old-style road movie adventure featuring two 20-something men who have a diabolical run in with a dusty gold miner south of the boarder. Byrge also notes that the feature is “propelled by Kirpatrick Thomas’ rousing music which howls and thrusts” throughout the film. ‘The Treasure of the Black Jaguar’ will be released later this year.

Vocalist/guitarist Kirpatrick Thomas of LA-based Western psych-rock group Spindrift recently released their LP “Classic Soundtracks vol: 1.” This is their first record release with Xemu Records who recently released Dead Meadow’s “The Three Kings” project and the morning after girls new album “alone.” This cinematic-ally influenced record is stylistically diverse, the songs range from Bollywood-influenced funk to haunting psych, stripped down noir to dark country, with a good measure of their trademark rousing western thrown in as well.  IFC (Independent Film Channel) will premiere a video for each track with a different director’s vision. IFC has premiered four videos to date. On May 10th of this year, Alarm Magazine named “Classic Soundtracks vol: 1” one of the best albums of the week stating, “The twangy, reverberated, psych-effected guitars are a staple in nearly every sonic journey, but with the assorted accents — glockenspiel, Theremin, quasi-Cambodian backing vocals, and even howling wolves — you never feel like you’ve quite been there before.” The band is currently touring Europe with Black Mountain, Kurt Vile, and Dead Meadow.
