Prolific Copenhagen-based lo-fi artist Claus Frøhlich aka Younolovebunny recently shared his genuinely bizarre collection of homemade music videos for his Happy Nation II cassette which dropped on January 1st via forward-thinking Parisian label Almost-Musique (Money, Shimmering Stars). Featuring appearances from Vladimir Putin, Jan Erlings Budde, Michael Jackson, President Obama, watermelons, a slow-dying ice cream, some random bunnies drawn by Pia Zölzer and internet-serendipity, the series of videos is a fantastic peak into the strange and wonderful multi-media world of Younolovebunny.
While a 5-track digital EP selection of the cassette is still available to stream (HERE) , the full 14-track Happy Nation II cassette can be ordered via Almost-Musique (HERE) which includes 9 cassette-only (and no digital release) songs + 30-minutes of secret lo-fi music on the B-side (Doh Merry Long Ago Lost Songs).
Frøhlich was discovered by the Almost-Musique team when one of his songs was chosen by Fat Cat Records which selected Younolovebunny for its 2011 annual compilation of demo tracks. Claus passed along over 700 tracks to his new label, revealing a dynamic spectrum of influences from the unconventional artist. Taking cues from K Records spirit (Beat Happening, Microphones), grunge (The Breeders meet Nirvana) and a tip to The Modern Lovers, Younolovebunny covers significant ground in this introductory collection of tracks all while maintaining cohesion through its lo-fi production and sensitive, in-ward facing lyrics.
