ZZ Ward Returns to SXSW After Near Sold-Out Tour

By on March 3, 2013

Alternative/R&B songstress ZZ Ward is making her way to SXSW on her Fire and Shine Tour with co-headliner Delta Rae. Selling out nearly every market on this tour, including two nights at the Troubadour, ZZ has also confirmed appearances at Sasquatch and Wakarusa, as well as Firefly Music Festival (June 21-23) in Dover, DE alongside The Lumineers, Kendrick Lamar, Vampire Weekend, and more. These shows are a testament to the drive and dedication of this innovative young performer, who NPR believes ‘is going to be a star.’

Ward is also set to make back to back live morning TV appearances on Thursday, March 7th.  First, she’ll make her Good Morning America debut (airs on ABC at 7a) performing her hit single “Put The Gun Down,” which is currently Top Ten at Triple A radio alongside Mumford and Sons and fun.  Afterwards, Ward will be stopping by for a live performance on VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz Live” (airs on VH1 at 10a.)

Ward has just announced a unique collaboration with Broner Hats, debuting her own signature line of fedoras. A staple in her own wardrobe before the trends, ZZ used to borrow fedoras from her father’s collection when she was 12 years old, playing in bars with his blues band. Now, coming full circle, he wears hers. The fedoras will have a 2-inch bill and a ribbon embossed with Ward’s logo, and each will include a custom ZZ Ward Ace of Spades card that the artist worked with Broner’s designers to create.

Ward’s beginnings in rural Oregon were hardly indicative of her future accomplishments. She’s toured with everyone from Grace Potter to Gary Clark, Jr. and Allen Stone, and the guest appearances on her debut LP Til The Casket Drops (Kendrick Lamar, Fitz of Fitz and the Tantrums and Freddie Gibbs) are nothing to scoff at.

Ward’s smoky vocals and deliberate, varied arrangements earned her music the subgenre nickname ‘dirty shine,’ which she embraces wholeheartedly. Her performances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Conan and Last Call with Carson Daly have kept her in the public eye, and ‘Cryin’ Wolf, ft. Kendrick Lamar’ recently hit #1 on The Hype Machine. Look for her upcoming remix EP this summer with Passion Pit, Dave Sitek, Com Truise and Schoolboy Q, and listen for her on Nashville, The Voice, ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars and MTV’s Awkward.
